On Mental Health Awareness Day, we focused on the theme "It's time to prioritise mental health" where we highlighted the importance of creating safe, supportive environments. We talked about how we can make our school a kind and welcoming place for everyone by offering a listening ear and being there for one another.
As part of the day’s activities, each class participated in a "Tea and Talk" session, where students had the opportunity to share and listen in a relaxed setting. Conversation starter cards were provided to help guide discussions. We also encouraged everyone to add a splash of yellow to their outfits, symbolising the focus on mental health.
Here are some of the activities students could take part in:
-
Art: Exploring colours and emotions, inspired by Pablo Picasso’s use of colour to express feelings. Students created their own artwork reflecting their emotions through colour.
-
Music: Learning the song "Yellow" by Coldplay, connecting music to our theme of positivity and mental health.
-
Design & Technology: Designing and creating a yellow item to wear during the day, such as a hat, bow tie, or badge, to further engage with the theme of "Hello Yellow."
-
PSHE: Participating in the "Tea and Talk" sessions, where students discussed topics related to kindness and support, with conversation cards to guide them.
-
PSHE: Guided meditation and mindfulness, developing focus, emotional regulation, and a sense of calm, promoting overall well-being.
-
English: Writing poems to express thoughts and feelings, either individually or as a group, inspired by the colour yellow. Poems were collected to display on our Mental Health board.
This day was designed to be creative and positive, and we hope it helped promote a sense of belonging, kindness, and mental well-being for all. Thank you for making it a bright and meaningful day!
